Glycerol Monolaurate(GML)
Glycerol monolaurate is a feed additive product that enhances animal health and production performance through its antibacterial activity. It is more biologically active than the corresponding fatty acids,is less affected by PH, and is a viable alternative to the use of antibiotics and growth promoters
Action mechanism
The antibacterial action of glycerol monolaurate is mainly against Gram positive bacteria, such as streptococcus and clostridium. Its antibacterial activity is reflected in the destruction of phospholipid membrane.Generally, glycerol monolaurate has higher biological activity and can maintain non-ionic state at lower critical micellar concentration and PH related to biological and physiology, while fatty acids are ionic state at neutral PH. Glycerol monolaurate’s antibacterial ability is 4 times that of free fatty acids.
